so I guess that's fair, but they should probably cool it with the 'any song' brag. Anyways, I thought I'd test that accuracy and see how well it can catch those other types of chords it allows you to manually enter.

I created a file with the chords C, Cm, Csus2, and Csus4. RiffStation guessed C, Ab, C, and F, respectively. I then created another file that had the chords C7, Cm7, and Cmaj7. I also wanted to test that 80% claim, so I used some Dr. OctoRex acoustic guitar loops and created a track that played A C E Gm and Cm chords for 8 bars each (strumming 1/4 notes). RiffStation got the A and the E chords right, but it guessed D for the C chord, Bm for the Gm chord, and seemed to think that the static Cm chord was switching back and forth from D to A every couple strums (these are samples, they aren't different). I can provide these files for anyone else if they're interested in trying it for themselves.

But the moral of the story is: learn to use your ears! That's what being a musician is about. Technology can be great, but it can also provide an opportunity for you to sidestep the development of very crucial skills. I want to encourage you to develop the skills that every musician should have instead of relying on software to (inaccurately) make up for those shortcomings.ĮDIT: I made a video where I go through the process I used to test RiffStation's accuracy.
